This interactive lesson introduces students the concept of the periodic table, background information on Dmitri Mendeleev, how to read an entry on the periodic table, the significance of element name, symbol, atomic mass, and the atomic number. Class starter, PowerPoint (for PC) and KeyNote (for Mac) presentations with student notes, practice worksheet, and all teacher keys are included. 29 total slides / pages. Approximately one to three class periods in length, as a point of reference, I teach a 50-minute class. Could be adapted to be shorter or longer based on teacher preference. Additional web based resources are included with links to additional audiovisual clips to enhance presentation if desired. Although aligned with Texas State standards this activity will be a great resource for any curriculum that includes the periodic table, atomic mass, atomic number, or Dmitri Mendeleev.
