This is a nice little activity I designed for the first week of school when I introduce the kids to the concept of periodization. Basically, they are given a bag full of cut-outs that contain a bunch of "puzzle pieces." These pieces include the names of all the eras, the dates of all the eras, a description of each era and a picture that represents that era. They need to piece all of the items together into an accurate timeline of the different periods of AP World History.
It does require a bit of front-end work on your part, to print and cut out the puzzle pieces and then put them into baggies for the groups of students who put it together. My advice is to print several copies in color and laminate them so that you can re-use it every year. The preview picture I uploaded is what the final completed "periodization puzzle" should look like.
