This visually attractive SmartBoard lesson continues a fair theme that I use for my entire probability unit. This lesson introduces students to permutations though examples of fair animals and food booths. Students figure out the answers to different questions through their own problem solving strategies. Not until the end does the lesson introduce the term "permutations" and ask the students to deduce a working definition for the term. Finally, the students are asked if there is a shortcut way to solve permutations. This would be the perfect lead-in to the permutation formula and factorials. A student sheet accompanies the SmartBoard lesson to allow for maximum participation. If you want to continue the fair theme, follow me to see the other probability lessons I've created.
