Persepolis Discussion Role Cards
Liven up a discussion of Satrapi's graphic memoir, Persepolis, with these role cards from Spark Creativity. Print and cut out the cards, then watch an ordinary discussion take on a life of its own.
While some cards encourage students to take specific positions about the study of Persepolis, others more generally guide students in positive ways toward improved interdisciplinary connections and discussion dynamics.
When the discussion is complete, pass out the reflection handout and find out what your students thought of their roles and the roles of others, and how the exercise may have changed their view of classroom discussion.
I have adapted these discussion role cards for several specific novels, including Into the Wild (in the Into the Wild Unit Activities Pack), 1984, and The Hunger Games, in an effort to cater to teachers who like products more specifically tailored to the novels they are teaching. They are also available in a general format, listed as ELA Discussion Role Cards. Please do not accidentally buy a very similar product twice! Thanks.
