Personal Finance Pretest-Posttest- EXCELLENT WAY TO START & END COURSE
This download is a zip folder that contains 2 word document files- a student pre-test with a detailed answer key and a student post-test with a detailed answer key. The Personal Finance Pre-test is an excellent resource to have and use. It is a 25 question assessment to see what your students already know in regard to personal finance/financial literacy. It can be given to students on the first/second day of class and will hopefully prove to students (when they more than likely do poorly) how important this course is going to be to them. I do not grade it. Questions are short-answer and cover the topics you would teach in a typical personal finance course such as the difference between gross pay and net pay, what a budget is, types of payroll deductions, difference between a debit card and credit card, savings account options, etc. It is a Word document so you can edit it, delete questions, add in your own, etc. For the most part though it really is no prep! You can give the students 15-20 minutes to answer the questions and then go over the answers. When you grade it (don't have to count it) there is a spot for score and number of correct answers. This is a great resource to use to collect data on your students especially if you work at a school that requires you to come up with goals dealing with collection of student data.
At the end of the course you can then give the students the Personal Finance Post-test. It contains the same exact 25 short-answer questions. It just says Post-test on it and the directions are a little different. The goal for the post-test is to see how the students have improved. After taking your course they should all hopefully now do very well on the test. You can grade this test if you want.
