This lesson plan, which covers about 2 hours of class time, covers the economics behind affording college today as well as how to afford living with college debt. Students will independently research college costs, rankings of colleges based on matriculation rates, the availability of jobs in specific job markets, and then create a budget for their first year post graduate.
I assign this towards the middle of the year as seniors find acceptance letters in their inboxes, and find that many of the issues we cover in this unit have never crossed their mind. Many have taken this into consideration when narrowing down their choice of college and major. This is a great activity.
