These cards have been created to develop and enhance your lessons and learning centers in your classroom. This material is aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), and covers the following:
5.10 Personal Financial Literacy. The student applies mathematical process standards to manage one’s financial resources effectively for lifetime financial security. The Student is expected to:

5.10(A)_____Define income tax, payroll tax, sales tax and property tax.

5.10(B)_____Explain the difference between gross income and net income.

What is included in this work?

-Game “Taxing” (it’s a great game for independent practice!)

-Cards from 1-12 are short answer statements. Also there is another set included in this file a little more rigorous for the advanced students.

-Cards from 13-36 also have two versions. One version of multiple choice questions and a second version of short answer.

-I have also included 3 pay stubs needed to answer the questions 13-30.

You can use the cards in different ways.
For guided or independent practice: Show the pay Stubs on the document camera and ask some of the questions included here.

For Learning Centers: Have students working in pair solving the same questions using the game "Taxing" and the scratch paper provided. Each round of the game has 10 random questions. Give them the answer document at the end of the game for self checking.

For Interventions. Use the recording sheet and the scratch paper provided. Ask direct questions about the pay stubs. Have them identifying the difference between income tax, payroll tax, property tax and sales tax. Ask them to calculate the percentage. This is also a great opportunity for students to show mastery of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of decimals.
