Daily Work Instructions for Teachers
This daily work set includes four different daily work worksheets for students to practice their personal information and calendar skills. Daily work consists of: address, phone number, birthdate, signature, and parents' names, as well as, date, days of the week, weather and space for a journal response. (I have a separate product full of journal prompts… see 365 Days of Visual Journal Prompts.) The journal prompts can be content related (ex List 3 things in your house that use electricity), life skills based (ex What ingredients would you need to make pizza?), social skills based (ex Name 3 people you can ask for help at the grocery store), or simply for fun, a great way to develop self-awareness and autonomy (ex Would you rather climb a mountain or go snorkeling?). We usually read and discuss the journal, helping students with sentence stems and spelling, before letting students free to work independently on their daily work.
This set is designed to help students practice skills needed in case of emergencies and needed for filling out job applications. There are multiple daily work pages to ensure students are not simply memorizing a form, but rather learning to recite/write their personal information. To help develop these skills, I usually provide students with a cheat sheet of their personal information. I’ve created a template for student cheat sheets as part of this product purchase. They are allowed to use their cheat sheet Monday-Thursday and then Fridays are test days. We have had great success with this set up.
For independent work, you can print and have students retrieve worksheets from a set location each day (hanging files, worksheet bin, etc), you can keep copies in their daily binder for them work on during a specific time, or you can laminate them for students to finish with a dry erase marker each day.
Daily Work can be used during social studies or ELA time as an independent work station. It’s a great daily routine that provides students time to work on meaningful skills while teachers pull for small group or one-on-one direct teach sessions.
