Are personal narratives a part of your curriculum? Do your students struggle to write them? If so, this product can help you and your students write interesting personal narratives that they enjoy writing and you enjoy reading. I created this product after several years of searching for a method to teach personal narratives that consistently brought good results without being painful for either the students or the teacher. Since I started using this method, I no longer dread teaching personal narratives and I have few complaints from the students.
What you will find in this download are 22 pages of graphic organizers, worksheets, and suggestions on how to teach personal narratives. It walks you and your students through the entire process from reading personal narratives to help students brainstorm ideas, to drawing pictures of the events and writing about them and then writing great introductions and conclusions. Students are given specific instructions on how to revise their stories on their own before they confer with you. After meeting with the teacher, students have specific instructions on how to publish and proofread their story. The end product looks like a book and is easily made from a 12 x 18 piece of construction paper.
In addition to suggestions on how to use this product, I have also included copying suggestions, a page of Interesting Story Starters to help students create a great introduction, a Conference Sign-Up Sheet students use when they are ready to meet with you, papers for students to publish their stories on, a title page, ideas on how to create an interesting title, and a rubric to grade the finished product. It's a complete package of how to get students to write personal narratives that are enjoyable to read.
