Do you want students to do a better job of wrapping up their narratives with clear endings that also highlight how their experience changed them? Do you want your students to get better at recognizing and writing inner thinking, emotions, and sensory details? Here is an effective and active way to give students practice for writing conclusions for personal narratives before they dive into their own writing.
Students will read multiple mentor texts of personal narrative conclusion paragraphs and get a chance to label them while hunting for great examples of authors wrapping up their stories and highlighting how they changed or what they learned. Students will also be hunting for and labeling examples of inner thinking and sensory details.
Students will also be given prompts practice writing conclusion paragraphs for two example personal narrative ideas, with an opportunity to label their own work.
