It's difficult to find modeled stories for our students. I have written a personal narrative about walking up to a Halloween party, but it is a "seed story," not a watermelon story. I focus on a few minutes of time, rather than the whole Halloween party. Students can dissect my story for descriptive language/setting, hook, literary devices used, show not tell, what they character thinks, does, and the specific physical changes that the character experiences within the narrative. Brainstorming page included, as well as writing stationary for related Halloween story, or 2 other topics given for future "focus on a moment" stories.
