Here is an active way to give students practice for writing hooks for personal narratives before they dive into their own writing. Students will read multiple mentor texts of personal narrative hooks and get a chance to label them while hunting for great examples of authors using questions, surprising facts/statements, and climax clues to hook the reader. Students will also be given two prompts practice writing hooks for two example personal narrative ideas, with an opportunity to label their own work.
