This is a cross-curriculum common core aligned unit with poetry as its focus. Although there is a heavy focus on Language Arts there are science, social studies and math links throughout the unit. This unit will introduce children to different types of poetry, poetic elements, authors and allow them a chance to answer comprehension questions about poems they have read. Students will also be given the opportunity to create their own poems!
I have included a trajectory that spans over the course of this 20 day unit. Each day, students will have a new addition to add to their personal poetry notebooks. You will find graphic organizers, reference sheets, comprehension questions and an ending reflection sheet in addition to the daily poetry focus.
