[NO PRINT & NO PREP / Telepractice & In-Person]
This is a basic go-to activity for establishing a foundation of personal pronoun (he/she/they) knowledge. This activity consists of 44 authentic pictures. As the preview shows, pronouns are first presented within sentence level text paired with a corresponding picture. They are then presented in a field of 2 to allow for opportunities to work on targets receptively. We find that students lacking communicative confidence (perhaps due to grammatical errors that are frequently corrected at home and in school) do best when you first reduce the expectation for verbal output; provide prompts such as “Find the picture that shows ‘SHE is holding the dogs’. Now find the picture that shows ‘HE is holding the dogs’.” Build verbal risk-taking on top of a strong foundation of receptive successes.
CLINICAL TARGET MASH-UP: Flip it around and put your client in a superior role by asking them to describe the picture for you to point to! This way, they are doing the ‘difficult’ work with a strong sense of control.
