What is the Personalized Learning Project, and what is its purpose?

The Personalized Learning Project (PLP) is an independent learning project based on your interests. The PLP allows you to explore an area of interest and provides you with the opportunity to apply and demonstrate knowledge and skills acquired during your education thus far. The goal is to choose a topic that interests you and research it. You might investigate a topic you have always been curious about or choose something you know only a little about and take your understanding of it to a new and challenging level.

For Example . . . A possible Personalized Learning Project for a student who is interested in English Language Learners might be to research how people acquire a second language. Then he/she could produce a bilingual book for young children about a cultural event (Cinco de Mayo, Chinese New Year, etc.). This product would require the student to write the story, translate the story, illustrate the story, and bind the final copy.

At the end of this project, you will:
• Extend your learning about an area of interest
• Stretch your potential through inquiry learning
• Challenge your personal and academic abilities
• Prepare yourself for life beyond high school with valuable skills

This manual will guide you through this exciting journey every step of the way. It includes the information and forms you will need to complete the Personalized Learning Project. The work of the PLP consists of four major pillars: research, product/performance, portfolio, and presentation. The next page explains these four pillars.
