Use this "Four Square" Perspective-Taking graphic organizer to look at four different characters' views about one topic in the novel. In this case, this graphic organizer looks at the question, "What is the beastie?" from four different points of view. Not only does this help build understanding of the characters, it also analytically draws a conclusion about this central question in the novel. Also a prelude to discussions about theme - good vs. evil, the Four Square Perspective document can be used throughout the novel, as students gather their evidence, or at the end. It's best to introduce this early, though, so students are thinking about the concept and gathering their evidence before getting too far into the book.
