Product Description
Do you want to bring more writing into your Social Studies classroom? This writing assignment is great for incorporating the Common Core into your curriculum.

In this assignment, students have two writing prompts: one from the perspective of Christopher Columbus and his crew, and one from the Taino Indians. I use this in my classroom to teach perspective. I focus on the concept of viewing the same event from a different pair of eyes and how different perspectives affect the interpretation of an event.

My students enjoy this assignment every year. I usually have students read one of their perspective writings, and the rest of the class listens while trying to interpret the perspective of the writing. It's been a great supplement to my textbook and other readings.
