This product is a 35 minute illustrated talk on video presenting a thoroughly researched and concise background to the novel 'Persuasion' by Jane Austen. This engaging lecture should place the author and her novel firmly in context for students. A series of slides illustrate a summary of her life providing information about where she lived, her family, her relationships and her preoccupations. A brief history of the major events of her time and the political and social structures prevailing in England in the 18th century are outlined also with accompanying images. Then there is a quick look at the setting of 'Persuasion' with pictures depicting the various locations of the novel e.g. Kellynch Hall, Uppercross, Lyme and Bath. Insights into Jane Austen's philosophies and principles are offered which should form a good foundation for a deeper understanding of the author's intentions and her craft while also providing much to think about and discuss.
