English teachers use this activity to help students understand the elements of a well-written literary essay. After the essay is taught in class, teachers provide students with an essay to deconstruct. The students fill out the graphic organizer based on the elements they find or discover are missing or incorrect in the essay. At the end, students total the points and come up with a final mark for the essay.
This activity works well in groups. It can also be used to facilitate peer marking experiences.
Recommended for grades 11 & 12
