This simple breakdown walks students through the creation of an introduction and conclusion to compliment the body of a persuasive essay. Many students can form an opinion and provide support through reasons, facts, or examples, but writing an introduction and conclusion can be challenging. This handout offers numerous strategies to catch a reader's attention, communicate an opinion, wrap up the body, and leave the reader thinking. Sample introductions and conclusions are provided as examples for students. This handout can be used when preparing for standardized state testing, such as the New Jersey Assessment of Skills and Knowledge (NJASK) or can be used in any Language Arts classroom.
