Persuasive Opinion Writing Prompts - CER Writing - Writing Centers

I was so thrilled with the level of student engagement and writing product this activity produced! Use these student-friendly prompts as a way for students to learn how to take a stance and develop their opinion/persuasive writing abilities... they will certainly have an opinion about the prompts! Each prompt is given a specific audience that the student is trying to persuade. Also included are "FOR" and "AGAINST" cards. These can be used to assign opinion, show opinions during whole class discussion, or in a debate-structured activity.

These can easily be turned into a great CER (Claims, Evidence, Reasoning) writing activity. With my students, I used it as an introduction to the basic format of stating a claim, finding evidence to support their claim, and then producing the reasoning based off those two things.

- 9 writing prompt task cards

- 3 sets of "FOR" and "AGAINST" cards

- Options in both color and a "printer-friendly" version
