This rubric assesses a persuasive piece of writing.
I know that often times, three details are used to support a thesis statement. However, I use the ice cream model of main idea (thesis) and details, as I believe that sometimes you only have one or two good details and not three. Quality over quantity. Therefore, students are assessed on using only a minimum of one detail, but they can include however many they need to effectively support their thesis.
Students are given the opportunity to self-assess their work using the "Student" column of the rubric and can make the necessary changes to their work before submitting it for the teacher to assess.
There are two rubrics per sheet.
