Argumentative Oral Presentation Project
ZIP FILE: PPTX, PDF Version of PPTX, a PDF Rubric for Grading, a PDF Handout of 10 Topics for Argumentative Speech, and the PDF of preview collage
16 page pptx consists of a creative persuasion project assignment requiring students to incorporate persuasive techniques to deliver a persuasive/argumentative speech, as well as create a visual aid to accompany oral presentation.
Includes 10 different scenarios from which students can choose to take a position on and then argue their position
This file is full of colored backgrounds, for use on activboard. You can even import the PDF file version into a Promethean Flipchart or Smart Notebook. However, the student handout and rubric pdf files are just black print on plain white background for printing efficiency. Should you have an older version of ppt that causes changes in the fonts of ppt, just project the pdf version of ppt that is included.
The assignment requires student to be familiar with the following:
Tools of persuasion, composing a thesis statement, supporting a position on a topic with 3 points of argument, arguing the opposing viewpoint, introduction and conclusion of a persuasive speech; supporting one's opinion on a topic
One page within the PDF version of the PPTX consists of the 10 topic choices and can be provided as a student handout, even though a separate pdf file is included with topics list.
Each student chooses to create a visual aid of choice (suggestions within product) to accompany his/her speech.
This is great for assessing understanding of the tools of persuasion and having them deliver a persuasive speech, in preparation for a persuasive research paper, etc. I have my students do this assignment prior to entering the research paper process. It also gives them additional practice in writing persuasively because they must prepare their speeches prior to presenting them.
Note: the zip file info under product thumbnail says a larger number of pages because it is the total number of pages for the PPTX, PDF version, Rubric, and topics list. It is not a 33 slide PPTX. I've included the different versions due to FONT ISSUES that may arise as a result of various versions of power point and/or PC/Mac users. Please be advised that the PDF file can be displayed just as a ppt can.
