This bundle is great for high school students who are being introduced to using rhetorical appeals, researching, and using credible sources to persuade. In this bundle you will find:
1. CRAP test source reliability worksheet
2. Claim analysis - For students to survey the class when deciding which outline to use to persuade
3. Persuasive speech assignment with rubrics and an individual reflection handout
4. Speech outline rubric
5.Speech performance rubric
6. PPT notes on 3 different outlines students can use to construct the speech, notes on rhetorical appeals - ethos, logos, pathos, and further explanations of how to construct a claim, behavioral objective, and call to action
The directions on the student handout are very detailed and allow for use with MLA or APA source citations. There is an example outline in this packet.
It's a good idea to discuss how to find credible sources and for students to do the examples on the provided handout. The speech assignment requires an outline reference list, and annotated sources. That means students need to print out articles they find and annotate for direct quotations and paraphrase information. I have found that collecting annotated sources helpful to mitigate plagiarism. The teacher will grade the outline draft and then students should get at least one more day to revise it and complete the visual aid before speaking begins. The question-answer session is optional.
