This zipped file will get your students excited about persuasive writing by having them create a new idea for a dance contest.

Download our preview for more details.

Congratulations! You have just been asked by the national “Dancing with the Dancers” Association to create a new dance contest that will appeal to the world-wide audience. You have some hard work ahead of you! Below is your “To Do” list:
- Dance Contest Name: The first thing you will need to do is brainstorm what the name of your contest will be. Then you will need to come up with a plan of how the dancers will be judged (judges, audience, television viewers, etc.).
- Overall Theme: Your next step will be to think of an overall theme of your dance contest. In other words, think of your audience and the types of dances you would be promoted.
- Ticket Stub: Okay, so you’ve decided on the contest name and overall theme for your contest, now all you need to do is design a ticket stub.
- Persuasive Letter: After you have designed your ticket stub, you will be asked to submit a letter to the committee to try to convince/persuade them to accept your idea. Please refer to the example and template for specific guidelines on how to write your persuasive letter.

Included in this zipped file is:
-2-page Student handout (including a Common Core table)
-4-page Teacher handout (cover page, teacher tips, persuasive writing template, and an example of a persuasive letter)
-Persuasive writing rubric (if you choose to use it)
