This writing activity is based on Christopher Columbus trying to convince the King and Queen of Spain to fund his voyage. In the packet students will read a short one page description of how Christopher Columbus worked to convince Spain to fund his voyage. Then students will get a rubric to write a speech trying to convince the King or Queen to fund their voyage to the new world like Christopher Columbus did. Students can do this activity in groups or by themselves. Then have the students present their speeches to the class as you have a student act like the king.
