This creative writing scenario begins like this...

Congratulations! You have just been asked by the International Dog Show committee to submit your idea for the name and theme for a new dog show contest (after all, everyone loves a pooch ). This show will be a competitor to the widely-known dog show. You have some hard work ahead of you! Below is your “To Do” list:

1. Name of Show: The first thing you will need to do is brainstorm on the name of the new show. You should also consider what kinds of dogs will be invited to the dog show.

2. Overall Theme: Your next step will be to think of an overall theme for your dog show. In other words, what breeds of dogs will be invited? Who will your audience be?

3. Ticket Stub: Okay, so you’ve decided on the name and overall theme for your dog show, now all you need to do is design a ticket stub.

4. Persuasive Letter: After you have designed your ticket stub, you will be asked to submit a letter to the committee to try to convince/persuade them to accept your idea. Please refer to the example and template for specific guidelines on how to write your persuasive letter.

Included in this zipped file is:
-2-page Student handout (including a Common Core table)
-4-page Teacher handout (cover page, teacher tips, persuasive writing template, and an example of a persuasive letter)
-Persuasive writing rubric (if you choose to use it)
