The overall purpose of this product is to engage your students in persuasive writing in order for them to understand the key components (effective lead, supporting evidence, objections, responses, etc.) that need to be included when writing a persuasive piece.
Here is the scenario on the card:
Woof! You have just been asked by the International Dog Show Committee (IDSC) to submit your idea for a name and theme for the popular dog show contest that is coming to your city. This is an amazing opportunity for your city, as the location chosen by the IDSC is very competitive.
Below is your “To Do” list:
1. Dog Show Name & Theme: The IDSC is waiting to know what the new proposed name and theme will be for the upcoming dog show! Be creative, as you want to attract people to your city.
2. Persuasive Letter: After you have decided on a creative name and theme, you will then be asked to submit a letter to the International Dog Show Committee to try to persuade them to accept your idea. Your letter should include unique features of your venue, as well as, some attractions that your city has to offer to people who come to your city for the dog show. Refer to the example and student handout for specific guidelines on how to write your persuasive letter.
3. Dog Show Ticket Stub: Once you have a name, a theme, and have written a persuasive letter, you will need to design a colorful ticket stub for the dog show. Be sure to include the name and your creative theme.
