The overall purpose of this product is to engage your students in persuasive writing in order for them to understand the key components (effective lead, supporting evidence, objections, responses, etc.) that need to be included when writing a persuasive piece.

Here is the scenario on the card:
Congratulations! You have been chosen by the National Hockey Committee to propose a new expansion hockey team name and theme for a new stadium in your city. This is a huge opportunity for you. Just think- a new hockey expansion team is coming to your city! Good luck with your proposal.

Below is your “To Do” list:
1. Team Name & Theme: The National Hockey Committee is waiting to know what the new proposed team name and theme will be for the stadium in your city! Be creative, as you want to attract people to your stadium.
2. Persuasive Letter: After you have decided on a creative name and theme, you will then be asked to submit a letter to the National Hockey Committee to try to persuade them to accept your idea. Refer to the example and student handout for specific guidelines on how to write your persuasive letter.
3. Hockey Stadium Ticket Stub: Once you have a name, a theme, and have written a persuasive letter, you will need to design a colorful ticket stub for the stadium. Be sure to include the name and your creative theme.
