This unit includes 36 winter-themed writing prompt cards and response sheets. Students are asked to make a decision between two choices, then support their choice through writing. The activities lend well to opinion/persuasive/argumentative writing lessons.
“I don’t know how to start.”
“I don’t know what to write about.”
“I hate writing!”
Does this sound familiar? Writing can be difficult for students when they lack inspiration. Luckily, it doesn’t have to be this way. Use prompt cards to get the creative juices flowing!
These cards present two choices to students. They will use their critical thinking skills to make a decision, then give evidence to support their choice. Voila, an opinion writing piece! Response sheets with a variety of academic vocabulary are included.
This is the Winter Edition, so prompts focus on Winter, Christmas, and Valentine's Day.
How can I use these?
I love these in a writing center. They also make a great whole-class activity! You can assign one card to the entire class or give each group a different card.
These are also perfect for oral discussion. They make great ice-breakers and discussion starters.
The prompts are appropriate across grade levels, though the production of writing will obviously differ.
There are 36 thematic prompt cards included in this file.
* 16 Winter prompts
* 16 Christmas prompts
* 4 Valentine's Day prompts
Response sheets with a variety of academic vocabulary are included.
