Description

Authentic reading passage of a traditional folktale by Peruvian author Leonilda Humpiri. This 478 word Peruvian folktale, in Spanish, is an excellent activity to spark interest and discussion in the target language. Passed down for generations, this story relies on culturally specific metaphors to communicate lessons to readers. This illustrated fable from Peru includes 2 main characters, a clear sequence of events mainly told in the past tense (both preterite and imperfect, and a moral at the end. It is best used by high school teachers for intermediate and above students, as an authentic Latin American text to showcase literature from the Andes.
