These amazing task cards will engage your students in a game while they learn to record and manage common transactions. From earning money for washing a car or spending their earnings by purchasing a teddy bear, your students will learn HOW TO BALANCE A SIMPLE BUDGET.
These task cards have been created to develop and enhance your lessons and learning centers in your classroom.
This material is aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), and covers the following:
5.10 Personal Financial Literacy. The student applies mathematical process standards to manage one’s financial resources effectively for lifetime financial security. The Student is expected to:
5.10(E)_____Describe actions that might be taken to balance a budget when expenses exceed income.
5.10(B)_____Balance a simple budget.
You can use the cards in different ways.
For guided or independent practice: In a developing lesson, you may follow the number in the card, to guide the students to balance a budget.
For Learning Centers: Use the recording sheet of the game “I’m Broke”. A fascinating way to have your students engaged. I've used this product in my classroom and my students love it. Ask students to shuffle the cards so that every time they try to create and balance the budget they will have different outcomes, so you can use these cards more than once.
For Interventions: You may use the cards in one-on-one tutoring to develop understanding of the concepts INCOME, EXPENSES, and BALANCE.
These cards will look best in color, but will also print out fine in grayscale. Simply print and cut along the guidelines. Laminate and use them again and again. Alternatively, you could print on cardstock. It works well to keep them in a baggie. Another option is to hole-punch a corner of each card and put them all on a ring.
