This a great activity to kick off a pet thematic unit. It is a listening activity where students practice following directions using directional prepositions (behind, under, near, between, in, in front of, on, beside and above).
The students place positional word picture cards on a mat, in a particular order - based off of the teacher's direction.
If they have placed all of their cards correctly on the mat, when they they turn the cards over it will reveal a picture of a common household pet.
From here you can look at each pet and talk about the different pets people can have.
The puzzles include the following pets: chameleon, goldfish, rabbit, ferret, parrot, gerbil, cat, dog, guinea pig, chinchilla and a hermit crab.
