This activity for the elementary music classroom introduces sol and mi. Young students are also introduced to basic pitch-level reading (high and low) in this lesson.
Students sing the introductory sol-mi pattern in a song and during an original movement activity.
This file also contains review of ta (quarter note) and ti-ti (eighth notes). These rhythms are matched with the words "pumpkin" and "pie". Students interact with technology when they click the graphics to reveal the rhythm.
Students enjoy this lesson! Even now, months after the lesson, when my students sing or hear a "sol-mi" pattern on neutral syllables, they shout out, "Pumpkin pie!"
