This is one of my all-time favorite fall craftivities! I love incorporating art with writing. Even more, I LOVE incorporating student pictures. This one has all three combined into one!
For this activity we read through the nursery rhyme “Peter Peter Pumpkin Eater” and use puppets to retell. I print, cut, laminate, and attach the pictures to popsicle sticks. I have included a poster you could print or display on your smartboard, as well as words to use in a pocket chart. I also included a black and white page for students to use. You could have them highlight sight words, circle rhyming words, find certain letters, etc.
For the pumpkin craft I have my students paint or color a pumpkin picture. For a special touch you can spray gold glitter over the pumpkin! I take their pictures with their hands above their heads. Then I cut their pictures out and help them assemble their pumpkins.
There are a few different options for the writing activity. Pre-K and K students can write their name into the poem to practice. First and Second Graders can copy the poem with their name in it for penmanship practice. I also included a few other prompts for open-ended writing.
Have fun! :)
