This unit has been created to assist you in meeting your common core curriculum outcomes. It integrates Pets and Colors to be used for the first few months of the school year.

The unit consists of:
➢ Five emergent readers (professionally illustrated) offered in both color and blank and white. These readers introduce key reading strategies, beginning letter sounds and common sight words that can be used for shared and guided reading.
➢ “Race Around the Alphabet Track” identifying focus initial sounds of pictures displayed and printing the corresponding letters associated with these sounds.
➢ Alphabet picture sorting initial focus sound cards.
➢ Color identification and word game.
➢ Matching words to pet pictures using either visual matching or initial letter sound correspondence that students have learned previously
➢ Rhyming picture cards use to create rhyming games for your Literacy Center
➢ List of related literature selections
➢ Spinning sight Word Game
➢ Math focus is on recognizing and printing numbers to 10. Ten frame cards and dotted printing sheet is included.
➢ Pictures for making a pictograph about favorite pets and colors is included
➢ Dotted dot dog cards for matching amount to correct number
➢ Craft suggestions and templates related to suggested literature suggestions.
➢ Science suggested experiments related to the theme.
This theme is meant to be used for a two week time period and is based on a balanced literacy philosophy.
