The Collision Lab activity guide is used along with the PhET Simulation "Collision Lab". Students learn the relationship between mass, velocity, and momentum in colliding objects. Students dig deeper to understand how changes in elasticity affect the total momentum and kinetic energy of the mass.
This packet includes a word document that can be edited, a pdf document for easy distribution to students, a pdf form that can be filled in online and saved to the students files, and an answer key. The activity sheet can also be printed and handed out to students.
PhET simulations are fun, interactive, research-based simulations of physical phenomena. All PhET simulations are freely available from the PhET website (phet.colorado.edu) and are easy to use and incorporate into the classroom. They are written in Java and Flash, and can be run using a standard web browser as long as Flash and Java are installed. The simulations can be run online or downloaded and saved to run offline if an internet connection is not available.
