The Tricky Word Cars Smart Notebook bundle includes this smart notebook file with 14 pages of interactive activities to learn or revise the letters and sounds phase 2 tricky high frequency words: I, the, to, no, go, into.
The first activity is matching activity. It is a 'find the pairs' game, where children can come up to the board and tap 2 squares on the grid to reveal cars with a word on. They try to find a matching pair or tap them again to hide them again.
The second activity is to practise reading. There are a set of 5 cars and 5 parking spaces with words written in. The children can tap on a car to hear a word. They need to drag the car to the space where the matching word is written. If they are correct, the car will snap to the centre of the space and if they are incorrect, the car will bounce back to its original position.
The third activity is for practising spelling. There are a set of cars with letters on at the bottom of the page and a set of parking spaces at the top. The children must click on the sound icon to hear a word, then select the cars with the correct letters on and drag them into the parking spaces in the right order to spell the word. If they are dropped in the correct place, the cars will spin around and if they are incorrect, the car will bounce back to its original position. There is one page for each word.
The fourth activity is Speed Reading. There are 4 garages on the left side of the page with a car sticking out. As each car is clicked, it will move across the page and disappear. The children have to read the words written on the cars, before they are gone.
The fifth and final activity is a Look - Cover - Write activity. There is a road with a word written on it and a car at one end. The children read the word, then the adult can press the 'play' button and the car will drive over the word to hide it. The children then try to write the word on a whiteboard or paper before the car moves on. There is one page for each word.
To go with this smartboard file, there is a set of printables. The first is an independent student worksheet which practises spelling the Tricky words. The other two are printable activities for children to complete as individuals, pairs or in a group using toy cars and are aimed at phase 2 Tricky Word recognition.
Please let me know how you get on with these activities and if you would like me to produce a similar resource for other phases.
