This activity guides students to develop a model describing the cyclic pattern of moon phases. After brainstorming ideas and reviewing good modeling techniques, students create a rough draft model that represents their understanding of the moons phases as viewed from both Earth and space.
Then after taking a gallery walk and viewing some free, visually-based websites, students improve their models for a second draft.
Lesson is in Word and compatible with Google Documents. Has a rubric based on NGSS standard MS-ESS1-1, Earth's Place in the Universe.
