This was good activity for my 6th grade to learn about the 8 phases of the moon.
This is a good way to get the students up and moving around.
It starts off with an option of 3 videos that explains the 8 phases of the moon and how they are viewed from earth.
After discussing the way the moon changes phases I have the students go around the classroom looking at the different phases of the moon and writing down a short description using their own words, while shading in what it looks like on their paper.
The powerpoint includes 8 slides one for each phase of the moon showing a visual representation of how that phase looks, and a description about that phase.
I gave my class 16min to get the front side of the paper down, then we sat down and discussed each using the powerpoint as a guide.
Next the students must fill in the diagram of the Earth, Sun, and 8 moon phases. They must shade in each one, label each, and show the direction of the moons orbit around the Earth.
You need an internet connection for the videos from youtube
