This is a great lab activity to create an inquiry based lesson for teaching about phenotype and genotype. Students can apply learn about the vocabulary through discovery. To wrap up the activity students can infer the definitions of the two vocabulary words: phenotype and genotype.
There are three different versions….WHY? To provide students with different needs accommodated/modified ways to demonstrate their understanding. This is especially helpful if you teach in an inclusive setting.
Level 1- Triangle: Standard version (what MOST students receive): 12 point font, constructed response question related to the lab activity.
Level 2- Square: Accommodated version (what some students receive) 16 point font and increased white space (especially helpful for students with visual processing deficits) and sentence frames for the constructed response questions.
Level 3-Circle: Modified version (what a few students receive) 16 point font, increased white space, and multiple choice questions for the application question.
*All of my handouts are in Comic Sans (as this is one font that is particularly helpful for students with Dyslexia and other visual processing deficits.*
