This is a paper lab sheet to go with the Phet atom Builder simulator. This lab is designed to be one computer per student. During this activity students will explore the different parts of an atom and how protons, neutrons and electrons. After that students will build different types of atoms and explore valence electrons, atomic number and atomic mass. The way the lab is structured, students must check in with the teacher before progressing on to the next steps. This allows the teacher to intervene before students get too far off track. The lab is an exploration of the Texas student expectation 8.5A: describe the structure of atoms, including the
masses, electrical charges, and locations, of protons and neutrons in the nucleus and electrons in the electron cloud.
