Teach students about the life and contributions of Phillis Wheatley, the first published Black American, using music. This worksheet uses 1 song that can be accessed on YouTube or Teachers Pay Teachers for students to listen to as a part of the activity.
This worksheet includes:
- the song lyrics
- a list of comprehension questions with the answer key
- a timeline activity with a graphic organizer
- a sequential paragraph activity that utilizes the timeline
- an inferencing activity
- a performance activity which involves students writing their own songs or dramatizing the song with acting or dance using the music available on YouTube.
How to use this resource:
Students will preview the questions on page 1 then listen to the song while following along with the lyrics on pages 2 and 3. Students will then answer the questions on page 1. When students are done, they can continue to be engaged by completing the extension activities on pages 4, 5, and 6.The answer key for page 1 is located on page 7.
