This is a two column chart. On the left, there is a short description of six philosophical concepts that are relevant to Grendel's development as a character. On the right, there is a blank box for students to cite textual support for each of these philosophies. This is a good way to make sure students both understand the philosophies and also can cite text. I usually have my students complete this chart after reading chapters 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, etc. The chart also facilitates whole-class or small group discussion of the philosophies.
