I created Phone A Friend! to target my students' ability to communicate effectively. Using this activity, your students will role play making phone calls, based on the situational task cards included. You can choose many goals to focus on with its use. Some ideas are...
• Pragmatic Language Skills: target turn taking, initiating and terminating interactions, asking questions for information, and intonation and voicing.
• Speech Fluency: target various strategies to increase speech fluency in conversation.
• Articulation Carryover: target spontaneous conversation to help students carryover of articulation skills.
• Functional Communication: target telephone skills to practice student independence in real life situations.
I have also included three student pages:
A visual reminder card (page 4) that you can use to cue students or use as a discussion about the situation card.
The Notes worksheet (page 5) can be used for practice writing down important information, strategies to use for fluency or articulation, or anything else you think might be helpful for your students.
A Practice Conversation (page 6) can be helpful in role playing phone calls. You can use this with one student or multiple students. Print as many pages as you need to keep the conversation going!
The 20 Situational Phone Cards (pages 7-11) should be printed, cut, and laminated for durability. You can choose which cards are most appropriate for your students or have them draw cards at random. I also included 8 Blank Phone Cards, which you can use to create your own situations!
This download is very versatile and I hope you get tons of use out of it!
