Use this handout for students to create characters based on names they find in a phone book. This sheet asks students to use their creativity to make up a character using several identity prompts, then use the character and his/her personality to write a story. As the teacher, you can use this in a number of ways. I have even left this activity with a substitute! Students enjoy being able to use their creativity instead of being given a mandated prompt.
**Note: You will need access to a phone book for this activity. I usually pull out pages and cut them into strips (1 column per strip), so each student has their own strip to choose names from. This activity may also require a short minilesson on how to read a phone book listing.
