Phoneme isolation and deletion can be a hard skill to master. These work mats help teach and practice the skill using easy to look at, engaging graphics which are friendly to use and uncluttered to look at.
How to Use
I use these mats in small groups. Firstly we look at each mat as a group. We say the word represented by the picture, then delete the specified sound next to the picture and say sounds that remain in that word.
After I feel the group is confident doing this, I give each student a work mat and repeat the process, reading aloud. After the sheet is completed we swap mats around the circle.
