Thank you so much for viewing this quick little intervention set. It was designed to engage the students in a brief session of phoneme deletion of first sound in consonant blends. Directions for use are included.
*picture cards from pack that are laminated and cut out (you will get 5 cards from each page, as the cards should be cut into strips with a picture and its word in one row)
*solid bingo chips (any color)
How to use:
Say: You’re going to make new words by taking the first sound off of a consonant blend. For example: The word crow without /k/ is row. Say still without /s/. The child should say till. Begin practicing with the picture cards. Have the child say the word. Then have the child cover the first letter of the word and say the new word. Repeat with other picture cards.
This could even be done as a game in a small group.
Continue doing this intensely with the remaining syllable cards for about 5 minutes or so.
Use again daily if possible until the student has a firm understanding of phoneme deletion of first sound in consonant blends.
There are 40 cards in all!
This is a skill needed for the Phonological Awareness Skill Test (P.A.S.T) – Skill #16
