Phoneme-grapheme mapping helps students see the link between phonemes (sounds we hear in a word) and graphemes (the letters that represent the sounds). This resources focuses on soft c words. The map boxes each represent a sound or blend of sounds. Because students are usually taught to blend consonant blends together rather than separate the two letter sounds, they are combined into one sound box to enforce blending of the sounds together when reading. Each sound box is revealed with just a mouse click until the whole word is revealed. Teach your students to sound out each phoneme as the graphemes are revealed. After all sound boxes are revealed an arrow shows up to have students say the whole word. This resource will not only help students blend sounds more effectively, but will also improve spelling. Students will have more practice hearing each phoneme in the word they wish to write and connect the graphemes to go with the sounds.
