This product corresponds to CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RF.1.2.c, isolate and pronounce initial, medial vowel, and final sounds (phonemes) in spoken single-syllable words. The sheet can be laminated and re-used. Teacher gives the student several chips or a dry-erase marker and either says the word or has the child read the word. The student says each sound in the word and places a chip or marks a each time he or she hears a sound; for example, the word "shark" has three sounds - sh/ar/k. This activity helps students to recognize that in the case of digraphs, two letters work together to create one sound.
